Powell Auction & Realty: Your Auto Auction Partner in Knoxville TN
Powell Auction & Realty has been in the auto auction industry since 1972. We hold license #1 for Tennessee Public Auto Auctions. We believe that our experience is testament to our ability to provide good deals and treat our customers right.
Here, we let you bid like a dealer. Get access to hundreds of vehicles of all models and make and find the perfect vehicle for your budget. First-time bidders and old-timers alike are always set to have a good time here at Powell Auction & Realty.
The truth about car auctions is, they don't always dole out dream-come-true deals. Some auctioneers find themselves stuck with a car that eats up wads of cash in repairs year after year, some end up dealing with murky deposit terms.
Choosing to attend an auction conducted by a trusted company makes all the difference between bringing home a good deal or not. Your choice of auto auction company makes the difference between flushing hard-earned cash down the drain and well-spent dollars.
While other auction companies only want to earn your business, Powell is about earning your trust, friendship, and respect. We see you not only as a customer, but as a partner. And as our partner, your interests become ours.
What are Auto Auctions?
Auto auctions are the go-to place for buyers who are looking for used cars at a lower price. As a buyer, you can purchase a car through a bidding process. This means you can get your car in a lower price than you could at a dealership.
What's more, some companies allow you to buy a vehicle from the comfort of your home through online auto auctions. Powell Auction & Realty, for example, posts on their website the list of available vehicles, in the days running up to the auction.
When you attend an auction, you're likely to find vehicles that have been leased, traded in, or repossessed. Of these, the best ones are going to be those that have been repossessed.
A lender repossesses a vehicle when a borrower has become unable to continue paying for it. As the lender has no use for the repossessed vehicle, they want to sell it the soonest time possible so they can recoup their investment. This means you're unlikely to get a repossessed vehicle that's in such a bad shape, insurance companies would no longer touch them.
Public auto auctions are the place to go if you want fantastic deals that will not burn a hole in your pocket. If you're a dealer, on the other hand, auto auctions are a hassle-free way to find a market for your cars.
Know Your Auction Types
The type of auction you'll take part in greatly affects the experience and the types of vehicles you're likely to find. You can either go to a government or a public auction.
A government auction is pretty straightforward: you're likely to find government vehicles that have been replaced, such as old police cruisers. You will be given access to the history of your car of choice, along with plenty of other useful information.
While you have significantly fewer options in a government auction, you are highly likely to get high-quality and well-maintained vehicles.
Public auctions are more like a mixed bag. Dealers usually turn to public auctions to empty their inventory and make room for new vehicles on their lots. This type of auction will feature any number of different vehicle models and makes. From a $150 Volkswagen to a $150,000 Ferrari, the options and possibilities in a public auction are endless.
Truth be told, some public auctions can be a bit unsavory. But there are also reputable auto auction companies that welcome prospective buyers to inspect vehicles ahead of time.
Most of the time, 98% of the sales at public auctions go off without any hitch. But in the event that you wind up purchasing a vehicle that has been greatly misrepresented on the auction block, you have the right to cancel your check and fax the auction company a follow-up notice the next morning.
Why Public Auto Auctions are the Place to Be
If you’re a first-time car shopper, you’re probably wondering whether it’s best to get your car from a dealership or an auction. If you’re a fun-loving auto enthusiast who likes doing things differently, an auction is for you. Quite possibly, you’ll find the excitement, the crowd, and the chance of getting behind your dream wheel appealing.
But apart from the experience, here are more benefits to going the auction route:
Quality. First, if you go to an auction by a reputable company, you are likely to find vehicles that are of high quality. A lot of these vehicles are recent trade-ins, some are almost new, and if you’re lucky, you may even chance on new ones. As was mentioned earlier, dealers also turn to auctions to refill their inventory.
Price. Despite having to compete with other bidders, you may still end up saving thousands of dollars. It’s possible to find vehicles being sold at wholesale prices. And if only a few buyers bid on the vehicle you like; you walk out with a steal.
Choices. You’re likely to find hundreds of options, including high-end cars that may have never been to a dealer’s showroom. Some of the most coveted cars have been sold at auctions, rather than dealers or a private party.
Apart from finding a market for cars that you need to sell, to give room for new models, there are more benefits to turning to auctions for car dealers.
Time. In both good markets and low markets, an auction lets you sell your vehicles quickly and efficiently.
Effort. Marketing vehicles take a considerable amount of time and money. Partnering with an auction company saves you from wasting valuable resources, as the company takes care of all getting word about the auction to individuals who are actually interested in buying a vehicle.
Market. Marketing to those who may not have the ability to purchase or those who are unable to make the decision to buy is also a genuine waste of money. By taking your vehicles to an auction you’re sure that you’re marketing your products to a market that has the intention and ability to make a purchase.
